Little Sisters of the Poor received the Knights of Columbus’ highest honor for standing up for ‘religious liberty of all’ at the 134th Supreme Convention.
The Gaudium et Spes (Joy and Hope) Award was presented Tuesday evening, August 2, by Supreme Knight Carl Anderson to Mother Provincial Loraine Marie Maguire and was attended by 13 Little Sisters and over 2,000 attendees.
The Sisters felt very humbled and there was a standing ovation. We take a vow of hospitality, and the Knights overwhelmed us with their hospitality was exemplified!
Only awarded in special circumstances to individuals of exceptional merit, the first recipient was Blessed Mother Teresa in 1992, and the last recipient was the late Cardinal Francis George of Chicago in 2015.
The culmination was the Memorial Mass of the Deceased Knights of Columbus and carrying up of the relics and Sr. Frances was asked to carry up the relic of St. Jeanne Jugan.
Sister felt very humbled but proud to be asked this special service.
