  • November 8, 2019
An original play, 150 years in the making

To mark the 150th Anniversary of the Little Sisters of the Poor’s arrival in America, Residents, employees, family members, and volunteers of St. Joseph’s Residence performed an original play entitled If God is With Us…

The two showings, on Saturday, November 2 and Sunday, November 3, took place in the auditorium of St. Joseph’s Residence and delighted audiences.

Read the Director’s Notes from the program:

As the Little Sisters of the Poor bring their 150th Anniversary celebrations to a close, we are delighted to present an original play commemorating the arrival of the Little Sisters in America.
It has been a tremendous honor to work with our cast, crew, and choir, many of whom have never participated in a theatrical production, prior to this play.
In keeping with our title, God has been with us every step of the way. As I am sure you will agree, we have been blessed with incredibly talented actors, stage hands, and musicians.
The Story of the Little Sisters of the Poor arriving in America is truly touching and profound. Therefore, please enjoy our production as we take great pleasure in sharing this momentous event with you.

God Bless you all,
Lisa Silva

When those first brave Little Sisters arrived in the USA, 150 years ago, they were helped by a wonderful priest and a network of generous Americans. Their houses were quickly filled with elderly persons who brought their past experiences and current hopes to the “little family.” As you watch this charming enactment of those days, you will recognize that the tradition continues in the lives of today’s Little Sisters, Residents, Staff and Friends. We see it here in Enfield and actually, in all our Homes. We thank God for the mission of St. Jeanne Jugan and for allowing all of us to share in it.
