ENFIELD, CT — When times are tough, heroes emerge. We all know someone who’s making a difference right now as we live through unprecedented and changing times.
Here at Patch, we’ve launched an initiative to help recognize these heroes making a difference in their communities. Together with Ring, we’re working to let all your neighbors know about these outstanding people and their stories.

This submission comes from Jane LaRocca, who nominated the staff at the Little Sisters of the Poor in Enfield.
Name: Little Sisters of the Poor
Hometown: Enfield
Hero’s job: Elder care
Relationship to nominee: I’ve volunteered at St Joseph’s Residence from time to time. Against the odds and the bad news from other nursing homes, the good Sisters quarantined in March and there hasn’t been a single case of Covid among their people.
Reason for recognition: I suspect their success has been due in large part to the Sisters working extra hard to keep their residents safe. They are available day and night. They work out of the limelight by choice. They are wonderful, dedicated women.
One thing to know: …no one thing. So many things! The Little Sisters are absolutely wonderful with every single resident in their care.
Thank you for all you do, Little Sisters of the Poor staff.
