Dear Families and Loved Ones,

The beginning of autumn and winter is historically the time when illnesses spread, and this year is no exception. Throughout the past few weeks, you may have heard or read about a “Tripledemic,” a new term that is being used to describe a large influx of respiratory viruses, among all ages, that are being treated at health care facilities.

As COVID-19 continues to create complications for adults and children, health care physicians are also diagnosing cases of the flu and higher cases of respiratory syncytial virus, commonly known as RSV.

While respiratory illnesses are making the rounds, this is also the time of year when families and friends are getting together more frequently and visiting loved ones in long-term care facilities. The holiday season creates more foot-traffic in nursing homes, assisted living communities and personal care homes throughout Connecticut, increasing the risk for Residents to contract an illness.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Connecticut continues to see substantial to high levels of COVID-19 community transmission.

You can protect your loved ones from by getting vaccinated. By doing this you are preventing yourself from getting severely ill and from passing on serious illness to our most vulnerable Residents. Getting immunized against influenza and COVID-19 demonstrates your commitment to preserving the health of your loved one.

If you do become sick with a cold, flu virus, COVID-19 or any other contagious illness, we ask that you postpone your visits until you recover. Many of our Residents are frail and are at risk of severe complications from respiratory and other illnesses.

Ask your family doctor, or pharmacist about getting a flu shot and the most up to date COVID-19 vaccine. It’s the right thing to do!
