Jamaican Independence Day
On August 6, the nation of Jamaica celebrates Independence Day. This day became a national celebration in 1962 when Jamaica became independent with full dominion status in the Commonwealth, under a constitution that retained the British monarch as head of state. To commemorate this holiday, several of our Jamaican staff members took the time to treat our Residents to a little vacation in this island paradise!
They brought in home-cooked traditional dishes to sample, shared their favorite songs, prepared a talk on the history and culture of their beautiful homeland, and performed their National Anthem. Afterwards, the Residents watched a video that enabled them to see it for themselves. It was fun, educational, and different! Thank you so much to our team members for sharing your patriotic pride with us. We can’t wait for another helping of Ackee and Saltfish!
